Fiji Government Marriage Requirements
It is important to note that the couple will need an original or certified copy of their respective birth certificates, their passports and if previously married, either a Decree Nisi or a death certificate is required. Confirmatory letter on current status to be obtained from the Marriage Registry where the applicant resides or statutory declaration signed by a Justice of Peace or Notary Public or Solicitor to prove that he/she has not entered into a marriage before (this declaration applies to first or second marriage). Please note that special conditions apply to certain Nationals and details are outlined in a separate Wedding Package document. Couples under 21 years of age are required to produce a consent document signed by a parent. We strongly recommend that as these guidelines are set by the Fiji Government, the wholesaler does need to double check all requirements. Tourism Fiji should also be used as a point of reference on pre wedding requirements too. The resort is not liable for any incorrect information in relation to proposed marriages in Fiji.
Marriage under Fijian law involves two parts:
1. The Registration:
The registration of the intent to marry with the Registry Office in Sigatoka. The office is open from 8.30am – 4.30pm, Monday through Friday and the meeting will take around 20 minutes. The Resort will arrange an appointment for the completion of the Fijian registry requirements and thereafter the marriage service at the Resort. It is important to note that the bride and groom will need an original or certified copy of their respective birth certificates, their passports, a Statutory Declaration (Single status) certificate and if previously married, a copy of their divorce papers.
A religious ceremony to be held with in the grounds of the resort (including the beach) or in the Bure Ni Loloma Chapel.
